Before changing the engine oil, old engine oil at operating temperature is poured into it and the engine is run at idle for 10 minutes. Then, first the oil filter is removed, then the oil pan plug is removed to drain the old oil and the oil is allowed to drain for about 10 minutes.

The oil filter is replaced and new engine oil is added.
